Hooray for the imminent arrival of the summer holiday and the chance to spend less time racing toward the school gate, and more time embracing family, friends and new experiences.
And yet, while we know all parents and children relish those six timetable-free weeks, we also know that those nagging doubts about ‘lost learning’ and ‘covid impact’ will be weighing heavy for some families.
To help with that, Lexonik have this year decided to gift you a gem of a six-week programme, which makes it easy to dovetail family fun, with ongoing learning and development.
Navigating the holiday period, with a new theme for each week, the course has no excessive emphasis on structured learning, and instead places the focus on stretching your child’s brain, developing their curiosity, and importantly, helping them to embed literacy skills…almost without thinking about them.
The programme sees children carry out a number of indoor and outdoor activities, centred on topics such as Baking and Cooking, My Community, Growing Things, or Music and Craft.
There’s a deliberate element of ‘non screen time’ activity, and plenty of resources, tips, support videos, and even a fun family reading challenge to get you all involved in the journey.
Topics are introduced and interspersed by Lexonik’s chirpy child-friendly characters Lex and Nik, and all resources can be downloaded and printed at home for your ease.
Sarah Ledger, director, says: “In all honesty, this is exactly the kind of programme I would have wanted when my daughter was smaller – and so I know that right now, when parents are worrying about what impact Covid has had on literacy learning in youngsters, it’s absolutely perfect for this summer.
“Each module has been really carefully crafted so that it’s easy to follow, gives ample opportunities for activity and reflection, and allows parents to get involved – or allow the child to work with autonomy.
“Our belief is that it doesn’t need to be an ‘either, or’ about whether to keep your child learning through the summer or grant them the freedom to enjoy the holidays, you really can do both, in a relaxed way that feels like everyone has accomplished a little more as the weeks go by.”
The programme is entirely free to download, and is available now by visiting our shop on the Lexonik website.
